The great Pauli Murray once said: “What is often called exceptional ability is nothing more than persistent endeavor,” and “True community is based upon equality, mutuality, and reciprocity. It affirms the richness of individual diversity as well as the common humanities that bind us together.”
These ideas have been my core inspiration since I was very young—I believe they are at the essence of my being. So, as I stumbled upon these brilliant words when preparing for a Black History Month reflection in 2022, I could barely contain my excitement. As I learned more about Pauli Murray’s life and many accomplishments, I decided to put these ideas into action in my life.
I created a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, Persistent Endeavors Foundation, to formally help me transition my ideas and intentions into actionable projects (or labs) to make a meaningful impact in the world. I launched The Crescendo Lab in mid-June 2023.
Like Pauli Murray, I will study law and American History to understand the underlying framework and systems that drive the American experience. But my journey thus far has included a series of persistent endeavors and communities of like-minded, aspirational, and inspirational individuals—I choose them as they choose me.
