Having the courage to try
I’ve always loved studio arts. Finding me with my hands and clothes covered in paint or fingernails stained from pigment isn’t unusual. I was encouraged by teachers to “press on, keep going.” Truthfully, I feel most stressed id and most myself with a pad and my pencils as I never know when I’m done or when my creation is good enough. Maybe this is just how it will always be, but I’ll never stop, and I will stay true to my passion for studio arts. In the meantime, I’ll celebrate my small victories and remain grateful for the recognition.
To my surprise, I was awarded a National Silver Medal from Scholastic Art & Writing in the Spring of 2022 after receiving DE Regional Gold Key recognition for this piece in the Fall of 2021.
I must stress how important it is to put your work forward for review and critique in your community. It is the only way you get better. With this observation, painting earned Gold recognition, and now I’ll build on these skills in my next piece.
This painting won a NJ Regional Silver Key from Scholastic Art & Writing in 2019-20. It embodies two of my passions —studio art and the many ways music is a subject in my life. This Violin Observation is an acrylic on canvas.
